Ian, Erik's a frakkin endlessly blithering idiot about all of this. He doesn't
know what he's talking about, he doesn't know Sun's history, and he damn sure
doesn't know how things work in the real customer world. Personally I really
wish he'd stfu until he has something useful to say other than a pile of pole
smoking mainframe worship. All of my computers, most of which have some variety
of sparc cpu in them, are desktop systems. I could go on at length about all
the ways that he's wrong, how he's wrong, and do it all on a case by case
basis. However I'm not a pedant, and I don't like arguing with them. Thinking
about if I might need to f-rt or not is a more useful way to spend the time
than doing that.
I'm just glad I don't have to work with him. Reading his offal is bad enough,
as he's a firehose of FUD who isn't doing anything good for anyone here for
sure.
Tim
Sorry you feel that way. We see things from a different background, it
seems. Mine are mostly driven by my experiences in Academic
institutions, a systems consulting cooperative, and a variety of Silicon
Valley companies, Sun being just the latest. I get my views from the
Sales folks about what sells, and about how things are actually used by
my own experiences and those of my various professional friends. I
certainly can't claim to have an all-encompassing view, but it is a
rather varied one.
I'm pretty sure, though, that nothing I've said has ever even approached
FUD. And I don't think anyone is going to mistaken me for an Oracle
shill or astroturfer.
You are right though, in that I think we're talking past eachother at
this point. Time to end this particular conversation.
