Thanks for the reply jKeil but still having no luck. If you can provide simpler 
advice that would be appreciated. For instance I have no idea what you mean by 
this:

>% mixerctl
>Device: /dev/sound/audiohd:0mixer
>Name = audiohd#0
>Config = NVIDIA HD Audio (MCP55)
>HW Info = Analog Devices HD codec: AD1988B

>% uname -a
>SunOS moritz 5.11 snv_123_jk i86pc i386 i86pc

Is that something I enter into the terminal? One line at a time or copy and 
paste everything at once? I tried both but get "no suck job", command not 
found" etc...

This is my first time with OpenSolaris so I am a noob here and the sound works 
out of the box with Ubuntu, Mint, gOS, Windows etc...So I know it is not my 
hardware. 

I have attached a screenshot of everything I can think of open that might help 
someone to help me.
