No, the Pentium D is a dual-core 64-bit CPU. The two cores are the last few of Netburst architecture, with variants used in both Pentium 4s and some Xeon's. I'm running: # uname -a SunOS sensei 5.11 snv_121 i86pc i386 i86pc On a Pentium 4 with one of those cores in it, and it says: # isalist amd64 pentium_pro+mmx pentium_pro pentium+mmx pentium i486 i386 i86 The Pentium 4 also does hyperthreading just fine: # psrinfo 0 on-line since 09/13/2009 20:23:07 1 on-line since 09/13/2009 20:23:10 So the dual-core nature of the Pentium D shouldn't be a problem. That said, there are lots of variations on the PD and 64-bit P4, so the late model high end variant may have some options that a not-so-high end, but later, PD core is missing. The next CPU announced after the Pentium D was the Core Solo/Duo, which was a 32-bit CPU. Intel abandoned the Netburst architecture (it ran *way* hot for the performance, so I can honestly say that the above P4 is one of the hottest CPU's intel ever shipped :-) and went to the Core architecture, losing some capabilities that they later added back - like 64-bit mode and hyper-threading.pwd <mike -- Mike Meyer <mwm at mired.org> http://www.mired.org/consulting.html Independent Network/Unix/Perforce consultant, email for more information.
