When people say it's using too much RAM I would perhaps rephrase this and say there isn't a lot of free RAM but then if it's free you arn't using it so it's wasted! Without seeing a prstat I would suggest it's ZFS making use of memory. Only if you tried using some memory hungry application (something using java?) and it impinged on that would I be worried. There are lots of discussions on how ZFS makes use of memory, most interesting is http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide Read and enjoy :-) As to services running have a look at svcs -v and see if there is anything you can turn of but basically I wouldn't worry unless as i say you cannot run something.
