I'm not an expert, but I think the default workgroup when you have a bunch of random WIndows XP computers connected on a LAN is called "workgroup" or "mshome" or something like that. When you are in the GNOME desktop for OpenSolaris, there is a silver sphere icon for "Network" or "Network Places" and you can click on it and it will show the Windows workgroup and all of the computers on that workgroup.
You can then join the workgroup and run CIFS in workgroup mode (don't use domain mode unless you have active directory). -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
