As a follow up to my own message... I decided to go ahead and reinstall. Once I saw that OpenSolaris ran fine from the Live CD in my new VirtualBox, I figured there was a good chance that it would run fine once reinstalled.
Actually I have a theory about my problem that I will post here as a reference for future searches. I was running my guest system with the VM additions installed. So I'm wondering if those VM additions (from VirtualBox v2.2.4) just don't play well with my new VirtualBox (v3.0.4). Probably I should have uninstalled the VM additions before upgrading VirtualBox. My Linux system wasn't affected by this because I don't have the VM additions installed in that system. Anyway, OpenSolaris is easy to install and update so it really isn't that big a deal. Fortunately I have reasonable backups of my files. Now I can enjoy a squeaky clean installation. That's a nice thing. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
