I've got a near-identical setup at work (snv_98, VirtualBox 2.0.2 w/host
interfaces, Windows XP guest) and the guest grabs a DHCP address with no 
problems.

Let me check it tomorrow to see if I missed any of the configuration steps.

In the meantime, what type of network interface is on your system 
(ifconfig -a)?
