Ok, I think the problem might have occurred because you downloaded an older, flawed version of OpenSolaris from an unofficial site that had a broken IPS package management system. If you downloaded the old version with the broken IPS package manager, then you had to run these commands:
$ pfexec pkg refresh $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install entire at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg-gui Right after installing it and getting the network running for the package management to work. See this link for a more detailed explanation: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana/resources/rn3/ It's also possible that the ISO that you downloaded was tampered with by the unofficial site that you downloaded it from in a way that would prevent it from working properly. If you have all your important data backed up, I recommend a complete OS re-install just to make sure that nothing is messed up in the future. Download the "dash one update" iso file from genunix.org: http://www.genunix.org/distributions/indiana/os200805-1.iso Then install it and get the network working and run these commands: $ pfexec pkg refresh $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install entire at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg-gui Just to be on the safe side, and then run this command: $ pfexec pkg install sunstudioexpress to install sun studio express (more details about that at this next link below): http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/IPS/instdevsoft.html -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
