It looks like the following list of Laptops have the best official Solaris support out of all the laptops that are out there: TOSHIBA TECRA M8 TOSHIBA TECRA M9 TOSHIBA TECRA M10 TOSHIBA TECRA A9 TOSHIBA Satellite A205 TOSHIBA PORTEGE R500 LENOVO 64608VU LENOVO 889703U Sony Corporation VGN-CR490N Dell Inc. Latitude D630 Dell Inc. Precision M4300 Because whether or not "suspend to RAM" works is the ultimate measure of how well the hardware is supported in Solaris IMO. Of these listed laptops, you said it had to be cheap, so that pretty much gets rid of the Toshiba Portege R500 and the Toshiba Tecra M8, M9, M10, which are all expensive models. And as far as I know, Toshiba is the only laptop company out there that has engineers that actively collaborate with the Sun engineers on providing good Solaris drivers and first rate Solaris support.
