The chipset is the Intel 5400. The VGA is shown as Matrox MGA G200e. I have booted the server with an Ubuntu live CD, downloaded the Device detection tools and it reports all devices as certified for OpenSolaris 2008.5. *vgatext (kernel driver) / ** mga (xorg video driver)
There doesn't appear to be an sshd with the CD version I have. /usr/X11/bin/Xvnc has the same issues, it requires X and so won't run. Does the hardware report indicate that the VGA device/driver is only supported in text mode? HP tech spec on the server refer to graphics as a "32mb shared supporting 1600x1200". There was the option for an Nvidia card but I didn't bother because, as I said, this server will not be running X once configured and deployed. Is there any thing else I can try?
