The lucreate and luupgrade man pages says just about all there is to say, with plenty of examples.
Except, I am too dumb to understand, that is? I never found the need to umount and vi vfstab in there. It says: "Note that, for successful completion of an luupgrade opera- tion, the status of a BE must be complete," which it still is not here, it is 'partial'. I do understand and believe that the man-pages as well as the documentation offered by SUN are complete and full of examples. But despite all those specific examples of splitting and merging filesystems amd whatnot, there is not a single one that I could understand and follow through successfully. Before one can make use of a comprehensive list of specific features, one needs to successfully do the standard version; in which I am still failing, for one reason or another. It would be more helpful to point out what went wrong in my previous efforts, respectively in the current one (see above), and the mistakes that I made, the wrong commands, instead of pointing me again and again to the manpages, which I have read up and down. As a system admin on OpenBSD, reading man-pages is something I am very much used to do, by the way. Last time, having read everything, both BEs panicked. I had read the man-pages, but did not (yet) get it done; the version that is supposed to work 'off-the-shelf'. I have learned by now, that 'init 6' and 'reboot' are different in OpenSolaris; which is not the case in Linux. This is probably why I screwed up my earlier effort so that it panicked. This was not in the man-page. Then I learned the trick to umount second_root AND remove it from vfstab. This is not in the man-pages. Those in the know are aware, I am not. So I am collecting all these valuable (and obviously) important gems; and once I have everything together, I will write the HowTo, once I get it done. Uwe This message posted from opensolaris.org
