I don't think you can do it in the 2008.05 distro - it's installer is
less flexible than Windows. 2008.11 I haven't looked at.

With SXCE you can do this. Select the Console Interactive Text entry
after booting (not the default entry, which is #1), and then when it
comes time to choose what to install, select the Core option (about a
gigabyte in size).

If by OpenSolaris you meant that specific distribution, as opposed to
the system/source, sorry (hmm. How come there's isn't a GNU/Linux
distro called "Linux"?).
