Windows installers (at least through XP SP2, I have as yet to experience Vista) have a customize option that 2008.05 doesn't - which makes them the more flexible of the two. That option causes those installers to ask all those "baroque questions" that people who know what they are doing use to get a distribution that does what they want instead of what the developer wants. Of course, that's pretty much the last time Windows doesn't treat the user like a complete idiot.
