Thanks. I think for now I'm going to try and get a minimal install running on a
spare server I have (ancient Compaq Proliant 3000 with 1152Mb RAM, a single
PIII-450Mhz and a bunch of 4.3Gb SCSI disks) just to get used to it. When I
have the cash, I'll get an external drive, backup the whole laptop disk, and
then start from scratch with openSuSE 10.3 and SXDE. After all, the current
install on the laptop has been there for almost 6 months... time to start over
again.
