Ok, I don't think the 2008.05 zpool data is corrupted, it's only degraded (obviously so as I installed 2008.11 on one of the drives in the pool). And even though the drive won't boot because the MBR is borked, all my data still seems to be there.
I booted up from the 2008.05 live CD and typed in the following command: pfexec zpool import -f rpool and then pfexec zfs list and it looks likes all my old ZFS snapshots and things are still there!!! OpenSolaris is truly an amazing operating system when it comes to your ZFS data always being there, even after human stupidy induced disasters like this one. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
