[osol-help] gnome terminal behavior -- input not visible

I think the two issues are/were related.
I changed the permissions on /dev/ptmx and can now login via ssh and the 
console appears to be working correctly too
the command i ran (blindly of course) was
pfexec chmod 666 /dev/ptmx
