Hmmm first of all : Maybe it will be good idea to visit your eyes doctor ;-)
Stop fun and now seriously :-) If you will enter http://www.opensolaris.org in your browser you can't miss at least those two links http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/Main/documentation (full of superb documentation) and http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSolarisInfo200906/Home Now about frustration : You're using Linux (Fedora). Ok. Then maybe you know situations when someone want similar functionality like in Windows and you maybe know what's the correct answer. If no then there is - This is a Linux, not a Windows. Don't expect that everything will be the same. Dot. It lead us to correct answer on your frustration - This is OpenSolaris, not Linux(Windows,MacOsX,BSD,...). Don't expect that everything will be the same. Dot. "Exotic" commands : Those exotic commands are there mostly for good reasons because no similar functionality in any other OS. (ZFS, Dtrace, SMF, LDoms, containers and so on) About marketing : Marketing part of any company is sometimes very crazy (in some companies all the time), but one important point you missed. Solaris/OpenSolaris is something like RedHat/Fedora so OpenSolaris is mainly development platform for future releases and mainly community project. OpenSolaris is for free (and sources too) for about 3 to 5 years. I don't know exact number. Linux is here from 1991. Guess what does it mean for as lot of things in system especially when OpenSolaris is based on sources from Solaris 10 which was mainly server platform and not desktop platform as Linux is (without patches from SGI will be Linux unusable on servers). You pray for Oracle that it will "clean the house"? Upsssss sorry......... http://www.oracle.com/features/suncustomers.html ;-) If you have some free time then pleaase read at least this story http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=125783114503531&w=2 -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
