If Sun is really serious about staging a full course campaign to promote
Solaris (and eventually OpenSolaris), it appears that this (i.e., working with
ATI to provide drivers for the Xpress 200M chipset) will be the perfect sweet
spot to focus their resources on.

But who is listening?

The lead engineer for the Xorg server in Solaris is listening.

Not listening here, but already fully aware of this are Sun's
people assigned to working with other companies and both they
and the execs know how important this is. (Believe me, all
the directors & VP's around here, and even Jonathan Schwartz,
all know this first hand from running Solaris on their Acer
Ferrari AMD64 laptops with ATI chipsets.)

Unfortunately, I can't comment on what they're doing about it
right now. Relationships with other companies are one of those
areas we still can't talk about publically until officially
announced. (Believe me, last year, I wanted to answer many
times "Nvidia is porting their drivers to Solaris x86" but
could not until our partnership plans were officially signed
and announced.)
