As to Solaris vs. SXDE, I was wondering if I could get an unbiased opinion from someone, given that Solaris is available for free. Specifically, I was wondering how spotty an installation on an AMD64 laptop would be - can I assume that, most likely, it will work, or should I expect it to be a hit-or-miss experience? You may have missed my edit to the original post- "PS - I tried installing within VMware, but was *not* happy with the performance." I gave VMware a shot, but wasn't too pleased with the performance - if I'm running SuSE, that's already a bit of memory load with my customizations. I'd really like to get the absolute most out of Solaris, so I think that dual-boot (or just giving up on the laptop and finding an acceptable desktop - not easy with the Solaris RAM requirements).
