Thanks for the tip about drivers. I bought the laptop from a company called Linux Certified in Cali. At the time (~2 years ago) it was the only 64-bit laptop that was guaranteed to have Linux-compatible hardware. Given the lack of support on their site, I'll be sure to dig around my files and pull out the chip-level specs before moving forward. The spare partition *is* a primary. At the moment, I have 4 primary partitions on a 100 Gb drive - a linux swap, and 3x ext3 partitions. The 9.9Gb ext3 is empty. As to backups - I have all of my important data - pretty much my whole /home - backed up, along with most of /etc. It's backed up to disk on a spare machine with a 250Gb drive. I lost a HDD on this laptop once, however, and know that even with that data backed up, a bare-metal recovery is *not* fun. Perhaps I'll go out and buy a USB drive to backup to. Thanks for the advice. I guess at this point it just comes down to buying an external drive to backup to before I move forward. PS - Can solaris be installed in one primary partition? What about swap space and all of that? This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list opensolaris-help@opensolaris.org
