Definitely no RAID devices. I checked the BIOS thoroughly.

The way RAID usage is invoked on this system is to go to a particular
drive in the BIOS and enable its use for RAID; after which you will
see "Enter Ctrl-N" for RAID configuration option appear early at
boot-time.

Since none of the drives are marked for RAID usage (I made sure of
that), that "Ctrl-N" option does not appear when booting.

I.e. you cannot disable the RAID subsystem itself from within the BIOS;
You can only configure a drives participation in it.
