Sorry, but it would have been nice to receive an answer to the question if it actually was supposed to work ... :)
I haven't given up yet to get the updated install to work. No clue how to handle the SUNWiiimr error, but it seems minor: svcs -vx is without fail. What bugs me next is the failure to start X. But also this one has an explanation at hand: (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (WW) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 GPU installed in this system is (WW) NVIDIA(0): supported through the NVIDIA 96.43.xx Legacy drivers. (WW) NVIDIA(0): Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for (WW) NVIDIA(0): more information. The 100.14.19 NVIDIA driver will ignore (WW) NVIDIA(0): this GPU. Continuing probe... (EE) No devices detected. Fatal server error: no screens found At least, all that is true. Now the question creeps up: How to uninstall 100.14.19 and install 96.43.xx Legacy ? I tried, but there was no lynx nor links to go to that site. [Question aside of this case: Why does nv78 upgrade if it knows that it can't support the card ?] So I went to ssh into another box, issued lynx. But strangely enough, it failed with "Error opening terminal: sun-color". I couldn't find this in Google, not a single hit. With nv70, no problem doing the same thing. Whatever. Another question: I changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf to 'vesa', but it insisted on complaining about the missing device. What is the command in (Open)Solaris to start autoconfiguration (something compared to X -configure) ? Okay, if this was a bug report, it would be too many in one. But here I dare to ask these 4 questions: 1. Update 70->78 - Is it supposed to work ? 2. How to uninstall 100.14.19 and install 96.43.xx Legacy ? 3. Why does lynx fail with "Error opening terminal: sun-color" ? 4. What is the command to start autoconfiguration of X ? Thanks for any hint, Uwe This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list
