I've looked at some of the code and specs in question, and the checking operation here doesn't seem right at all: http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/uts/intel/io/dktp/controller/ata/ata_disk.c The ATA spec says to check for disk size a certain way. It says to check some firmware variables and do some math. A Hitachi drive doc I googled up said the same thing, and some SATA code in opensolaris I looked at does just that. But line 454 of ata_disk.c is the start of a function that goes about things half wrong from what I can tell. Does anyone know anything about this?
