Edit the grub "kernel" line, adding "-v -m verbose as follows:

kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix -v -m verbose -B $ZFS-BOOTFS

On build 79 yo won't have -B $ZFS-BOOTFS on the end - this only applies to
newer builds, so don't add it yourself.

If you would like to use a ZFS root filesystem, download and install the latest
build - at least build 90 - and install using the "Solaris Express" boot
option, then choose to install using the text-based installer. You will then
get the option to install onto a ZFS filesystem. The graphical installer, which
is the default, does not allow you to install to ZFS.

Cheers

Andrew.
