I have had WinXP and OSOLb134 in dual boot on two separate disks so it can work (I'm a beginner as well) but I don't know why your grub is broken which seems important to understand. Currently I have WinXP and OpenIndiana (derived from OSOL b147) dual booted from the same disk, and that seems OK with WinXP installed first.
Would it help to import the /rpool of your unbootable OSOL and see if you can sort out the grub menu.lst which is in /rpool/boot/menu.lst ? Run the OSOL live CD and in a terminal do something like pfexec zpool import -f rpool /a pfexec beadm list pfexec beadm mount <name of OSOL BE> /a Then copy /rpool/boot/menu.lst from the mount point /a to the Desktop and see what you've got. Maybe you can fix it ?Then unmount and reboot. This is just my guess based on pretty shaky understanding.
