My understanding is that there are three major frameworks: OSS, Alsa
and Pulseaudio.

It seems Alsa was a reaction to OSS's earlier restrictive licensing.
(Basically OSS was commercial software). Functionality wise it is hard
to find a good comparison.

I ask now, because Ubuntu is switching frameworks from Alsa to
PulseAudio, and I was wondering if anyone has a good cross knowledge
of the differences, and why Ubuntu might have chosen to switch to
Pulseaudio vs. OSS? (Since OSS has as I understand a pretty open
license now).

Thanks,
Brian
