I also have an Ultra 24 that has this problem. I've had it happen with any application that uses sound including mplayer, mpd, and flash. It seems to happen randomly, sometimes every five minutes, sometimes not for hours. When it happens, nothing else is using the audio device at the time. For me, restarting the application will get rid of the static for a while. I had the issue in b127 and still have it in b128.
I was able to record the problem to be able to share what it sounds like: http://thestaticvoid.com/dump/opensolaris-audiohd-static.ogg . The static begins at 10 seconds into the clip.
