When I wrote this, I had not yet read Claus Aßmann's message stating
that Sendmail uses SSL_CTX_set_cert_verify_callback() too.  We should
add the functionality without changing the existing interface -- i.e.,
add a function for registering callbacks that expect the additional
argument.
