It's your judgement call - and certainly Cathy and Neela also are in this group.
My personal judgement call is that the contributions are not as significant as what we have used for extra-ATC status in the past. My sense it that the communication would be an explanation that we found they were marked as a co-author on a docs patch, and while you did not submit their name for extra-ATC status for docs specifically, we appreciate their help. It's an outreach mechanism, rather than for recognition or reward.
