It's already possible today to do a minimal installation with CD1 and a 
default GNOME / KDE installation with CD 1-3. Maybe we need to make this 
more visible within our Beta/RC announcements. We are of course 
very much interested in other / additional suggestions on how to fix this.

This probably won't change in the short term, as they are used by the 
SUSE Linux retail version + the ftp.suse.com mirror "eco-system" is much 
stronger than the openSUSE.org one. What's the exact problem with this?

I guess what you are referring to is the fact that we share the update 
trees with our bi- or even tri-arch products and those trees are located 
in pub/suse/i386/... This should be the same on all mirrors. But what's so 
problematic about it?
