First time moderation, or approved members, what is the difference?
Someone takes time to read the mail and let poster subscribe, or not.
very small in work (all the first time users needs to hit a
moderator), but quite important for the user.
Should we be disussing moderation of suse-linux-e or future
opensuse-{techsupport} on this list?
no, not in my mind.
there are two things here:
* should we not create a _new_ list, (keeping the
suse-linux-e also), moderated for the ones that prefere
this. I know I rarely answer on suse-linux-e for many reason
mostly in rapport with the fact 90% of the posts are OT
* should we "filter" the opensuse/opensuse-project (NOT
suse-linux-e) subscribe. I think this is very difficult
because a moderator can't know on what purpose anybody asks
for subscription, and that kicking somebody out of the list
is rude. I propose (if the list manager can afford that) to
make a more sensible thing:
have two states for the list users: moderated/not moderated.
Starting at moderated.
if the first post is in chart, the moderator pass the user
status to non moderated (so one time work)
if the first post is not in chart, write to the user (this
can be a predefined text) to explain that his post can't be
sent to the list and why and that he is still subscribed and
can write if in chart and then be freed
it will always possible to set back at moderated the status
of a people, but _this_ should be avoided.
The main importance of this system is that sometime a post
from an old subscriber of the least is OT. Or seems so. This
can be a mistake, or the OT status is questionable (often
when the mail asks for a bug, I know a can send a post to
the wrong list, beeing subscribed to many), it's
unimportant, this can be easily corrected. Most really OT
posts come from newcommers.
