Hi all,

I've installed SuSE 10.1 64 bit on a Toshiba laptop with a Core 2 Duo CPU. I'm
finding there are some instabilities that would be nice to pin down and
elimiate.

First, and most troublesome, it crashes when I log out. I can hibernate just
fine (which was an interesting and unexpected twist) but if I log out, (or if I
shut down) the machine locks up totally and I have to force the power off with
the "hold the power button down for ten seconds" trick.

Second, I've noticed it also crashes on changing video modes in Yast. This is
wierd: I can change video using the desktop (gnome) applet just fine. However,
if I use Yast and tell it to "Test Server" then it crashes. If I avoid the test
server operation, it works fine, and will reboot into the desired mode. I don't
particularly care about this one as now that I know, I change mode using the
desktop icon. However, I've a feeling that it might be related to the first
problem (because it appears--with no real evidence apart from timing and a
feeling in my gut :) that the crash on logout occurs when the video mode
changes.

I also have instability inside VMWare when a windoze eks pee client is running
firefox, but that's for a different forum. During the first two failures,
VMWare isn't started at all.

Does anybody recognize any of these, or have any suggestions how I might start
to debug this? Perhaps I can find a workaround (ideally one that actually
allows me to shut down instead of simply hibernating.)

TIA for any help/pointers.
Simon
