Sorry,

I forgot to check one simple thing: if I can mount the DVDs manually
(via console) or not. Mounting them per console (like in
'mount /dev/hdb /mnt') is actually no problem. In my humble opinion this
indicates that the problem is related to the automounting mechnism or
something in that fashion. Though I may be pretty wrong wih that guess
for I am no Linux expert; I am just a mere user and nothing more. 

So once again, if anybody knows the (possible) reason for my problem, I
would be glad to try out the solutions offered to me.
