I am not sure about London but here in the Colonies Star Bucks is a paid
for service.  It looks to the casual eye like it is a WIFI hotspot but it is
supplied by a company that wants you to subscribe.

I could easily be wrong, but that is my impression.  Go try another spot
and see what happens.
