Sorry for the top posting, I am reply from phone an it not as easy. Hope this
is OK.

Stan I have 4 SATA HD an 2 DVD burners that the are connected to the IDE
controllers (PATA). So the two IDE controllers tha most of the time have the
HD in my case one has DVD as master and one DVD as slave an the other one an
ATAPI tape drive as master.

IF I need the ide-scsi for the sata an it the cause that I can not burn dvd, is
there any solution around?

Please reply to the list only, avoid top-posting, etc. Thanks.

You system requires the ide-scsi for the SATA HDDs. Are your CD/DVD devices
also SATA or are they the old style PATA (Parallel ATA)?

ide-scsi is the way of the future as I understand it. (PATA) devices/drivers
that we have become used to will be incorporated into the ide-scsi way.
Makes sense since SATA will probably totally displace PATA soon. One driver
to rule all!

The machine I mentioned is a laptop that will never know SATA so why it did
ide-scsi will remain a mystery. The CD/DVD drive didn't work quite right
but it wasn't an issue because I didn't need it for the few weeks it ran in
that config. It booted the DVD and installed off my LAN.
