I know why it is not running on my system: because I blew it away and put Mandriva on that system instead. My question was why the package system was appallingly slow. Don explained that in Yast there is a choice between enterprise package management and opensuse package management, and the default, enterprise, is the slow one. Now I am ready to try it again.
