If you are having that problem, terminate the updater open a root shell, rczmd stop cd /var/lib/zmd and delete the .db file there in rczmd start then restart the updater. This usually solves the slows. Also useful: Get rid of kernel.org mirrors, they are slow and unreliable. Get rid of unused or duplicate mirrors because they all have to be resolved and cross checked.
