Doesn't osu use the zen-updater (at least optionally?)

When not using the zen-updater option, it seems to launch
yast any time you make a change in sources. Does that mean
it uses the same sources as yast?

How does this relate to the Kde Upater applet?

I can find opensuseupdater on my system, but no kde menu
item for it and not a shred of documentation.
