I used to have a 4 port Linksys (low end) PS/2 KVM, and recently I
switched to a Belkin 2-port USB that I use at work to switch between my
corporate Windows Thinkpad and the HP Integrity (IA64) server under my
desk. It generally works fine. The reason that some of these are not
supported under Linux is that they supply software you can use to
switch without having to press a button. On occasion, I have switched
and lost the keyboard, but a switch back and forth usually clears the
problem. Another problem I've had was that somehow the Linux side
behaves as if I have Caps Lock on and can't turn it off, but I've only
seen that happen twice. I've also used a relatively high end Cybex (now
Switchview).
