I was completely lost, luckily the thread also contained a partial solution, so I was able to get back to familiar ground.
I have always been able to Yast -> Software Management -> Package Groups -> zzz all. It gives me a good idea of what is going to be updated then a right click and All this list -> Update if newer version available and the job is done.
