Riight, so that's why I didn't any of packages besides the 'main' nagios
rpm, on the DVD...

Good. It *should* work out of the box, for 'localhost'.

Like I said; That link is for configure- make- make install -ing Nagios 3.x
on 10.2... Just for the record (well - the archive... really)
