Hi Bart, I made the decision following a reinstall on another faster server with more memory.
Basically it once again ran so slowly, both to reach the Thin Client log in and from the login in until the Thin Client Desktop appeared. Under these circumstances it is impractical to use. I eliminated the machine being used as a thin client, and substituted a netbook and once again the login delays were much the same. So where was I to go. I had changed the major components of the system so I presume it is something to do with the protocol which ccontrols the communication between the server and the Thin Client. To be honest without help from the people who know in detail how this works I could not fix it and to be honest professional paid help is out of the question. However......! You may be interested to know that I rebuilt the server( amd64) and put Debian on it. Last night I started the Java update. Not as straightford as on Ubuntu but I feel that Ubuntu is full of bugs and problems caused by insufficient testing. So if I can get the Browser plugins to work I shall then reinstall openthinclient again. My thoughts for doing this ......? To see what is going on communication wise between the server and the thin client........I think there may be software I can run on the server that can do this. If you can suggest a way forward from here, I am only too willing to look at it. What user login time sould I be looking for ? Regards and thank you.
