Hi Andre,

1) Yes, the router's DHCP server should suffice. The critical issue is that
the OTC Server needs to be able to see the DHCP requests sent by the client,
which won't always happen. If you have another DHCP server available that can
provide the PXE data as well then you can use that instead of the router - a
Windows Server for instance.

2) By default outbound traffic is not blocked. You should allow the OTC server
to communicate in/out on all listed ports.

3) OTC clients run a modified Linux distribution, so Office is not available.
You can use remote desktop to connect the clients to a terminal server and use
your windows apps from there.

I'll leave the other questions for people more knowledgeable than me :)

Subject: [openthinclient-user] Questions

Hi All

1) The Network Requirements specifies that a DHCP server needs to be running,
can I use a routers DHCP service?, or do I have to install a DHCP server?
I setup a test machine, the client was not listed in the PXE clients, but I
then created a client manually, assigned an ip address and it booted fine.

2) Setting up the Windows Firewall; are the ports that are listed in the
firewall section, require both inbound & outbound rules? I'm assuming both

3) I want to use MSOffice as a shared application, is it possible?, & how to do
it?

4) Also I want to use Google Chrome as a browser, can it be done?

5) Openoffice is listed in the Installable options, how do I install it?

Thx!

Andre
