Hi Miguel,
Thanks for your reply. What started out as an easy solution has just gotten a
whole lot harder!
If you have some links to help me figure out how to add the necessary Intel
graphics driver for the 915G chipset, I'd be grateful.
Regards
Chris

Hi chris,

hehe! welcome to linux world!
I've had the same problem in our Academy here in Spain, so we had to re-compile
the otc kernel for the purpose of your hardware or getting a hardware
compatible with the version of the otc compiled in appliance 1.0. This is an
investment I've made by myself, because otc guys don't answer so much to the
mailing list.
Re-compiling ubuntu's distros isn't so difficult, there is a lot of information
about that over the internet. I could give you some links to that info.
The easiest solution is testing all your park with otc and see which hardware
is supported and which one no. if, for example, the 90% is compatible and the
rest no, just think about buying the resting 10%.

Miguel

Hi Miguel,
Thanks for your reply. I am currently testing using a HP DC7100 PC but most of
the clients I plan to use will be old PC's from various manufacturers -
basically removing the hard drive and booting as openthinclients.

I am using the 1.0.0 appliance (downloaded yesterday). Is it straight forward
to perform the necessary steps to add drivers to otc to make clients
compatible? I can't see any information on the website. I'm not very familiar
with linux or otc.

Regards

Chris

Hi chris,
It is a hardware issue.
Which openthinclient are you using? 1.0 appliance maybe?
Which hardware thin clients are you using? If they are not on the
openthinclient hardware compatibility page, I think you will need to re-compile
kernel of the otc client and adding new kernel modules for your special
hardware.

Hope this helps.

Miguel

Hi,

I'm just booting my first client which has connected to the openthinclient
virtual appliance and displayed the loading screen. However, I then receive a
message "Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely
that it is not set up correctly."

The X server output ends with a line "xf860OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual
console 7 (Input/output error)"

Any ideas please?
