Thinking about putting OpenStreetMap on that piece of hardware - how
cool would that be... but no way.
Personally I refuse to update my TomTom and prefer my OpenMoko
FreeRunner in certain cases (less functionality, better updates).
And (some advertisement), there will be a next-generation FreeRunner
with enough power to catch up with current gadgets:

Ah. I was following this project from the beginning, but eventually got it
out of sight while waiting for the first devices to be shipped. I thought the
project is dead. And AFAICS, they still sell only "engeneering" boards =:-O
Where can I buy in germany and how much does it cost?
And do they offer such a nice magnetic snap-is as the GO LIVE 1000 has?
Well, that's the drawback of this project. You get it only without case.
so you need an old FreeRunner and exchange the PCB.
That's because producing a new case is a very costy thing and the guys at
goldelico are only a handfull people.
The current state of development seems somehow finished and there are
about some 10 pcb's to be produced then for early adopters (people who
bought it before it was ready).
After a certain period, they could go to mass production.
