It's not even *forward* thinking. It's just plain *thinking* that's lacking. Legacy IP addresses are running out *now*. The last blocks have been given out to the RIRs. You might be able to connect a *client* in a half-arsed fashion using NAT, and pretend that it's good enough. Millions already do, and they try to paper over the various problems that NAT causes — with a reasonable amount of success, even. But what do you do about servers, and all kinds of other machines that need to be accessible from the outside? -- dwmw2
