this brings up a fundamental question that i'd love to see addressed
somewhere on the openwrt wiki -- what routers just plain work?
personally, i want to use a 2.6 kernel, since everything else on
which i run linux has a fairly recent 2.6 kernel. i *really* don't
want to have to regress to a 2.4 kernel just to get wireless. i want
to hack on my openwrt router and i have zero interest in messing with
a 2.4 kernel anymore. life's too short for that.
here's a simple wish list: a router which:
* supports openwrt 8.09[.1] with a recent 2.6 kernel
* fully-functioning wireless out of the box
* ideally, at least one functioning USB 2.0 port
what routers fit that bill? one could always wander over to the
supported hardware table but there's just too much junk there --
there's little value in perusing the table to learn that a given
router is *not* supported.
what would be far more useful is a short page: "routers that work".
that's all i want -- a quick reference to a small set of routers that
i could look for at my local geek computer store that i *know* will
run openwrt and run it properly. does that list exist anywhere?
