The wiki is pretty clear on this:

Since it's a 3.3V serial connection you won't be able to use
a regular serial port.  I had recommended to me
a PL2303HX USB to TTL Converter Module, which can be had
for under $2 US, if you're willing to wait a few weeks for
shipping from Asia.  You will also need the sound cable connector
from an old CD drive, or an equivalent, if you want a single
connector and not have to fuss with figuring out which pin
connects to which wire every time.  (If anyone happens to
know the name/specification of these connectors I'd be
interested, being too lazy to figure it out myself.)

Alternately, if anything is talking to the device (if it's in use)
or if you can do something to talk to the device, you might use
the arp comment (or MS equivalent) to discover the IP number
from the mac address, which is often printed on a sticker on the
bottom.
