The wiki is pretty clear on this: Since it's a 3.3V serial connection you won't be able to use a regular serial port. I had recommended to me a PL2303HX USB to TTL Converter Module, which can be had for under $2 US, if you're willing to wait a few weeks for shipping from Asia. You will also need the sound cable connector from an old CD drive, or an equivalent, if you want a single connector and not have to fuss with figuring out which pin connects to which wire every time. (If anyone happens to know the name/specification of these connectors I'd be interested, being too lazy to figure it out myself.)
