We have had very good luck with the TPLink TL-WR1043ND [1][2] as a replacement 
for the WRT54GL.
It has Gigabit LAN, 300MBPS N-wireless (slightly better range than the 54GL), 
USB port, Atheros AR9132@400MHz CPU, 32MB RAM, 8MB Flash and available for ~$50.
It runs Attitude Adjustment 12.09 very well. I was a surprised the first time I 
told one to reboot via SSH and it had rebooted before I could type "exit" like 
I used to do n the WRT54GLs to close my session.
