Or some other third-party library. Point is, I'm not sure if it's ever
worth spending much time implementing, testing and verifying a logger
when there are plenty of good, free libraries available.

Maybe not, but concurrency, efficiency and correctness is. There could
be some compelling argument to why we need our own, but I can't think of
one from the top of my head.

(And if we do roll one, I would rather see a monadic logger or
something. Better than a singleton anyways)
